Lesson Objective
To understand that those who keep their confidence in God until the end will surely experience the rewards that accompany steadfast faith.
Introduction
On Sunday, we learned that confidence is God’s ordained bridge between Promise and Performance. The writer of Hebrews not only warns us not to cast away our confidence, but also assures us that it carries “great recompense of reward” (Hebrews 10:35). Tonight, we shall examine some of the rewards that renewed confidence produces in the life of every believer who patiently trusts God until His promises are fulfilled.
- Renewed Confidence Produces Stability – James 1:6–8
James teaches that the double-minded person is unstable in all his ways. Renewed confidence establishes the believer because it is anchored in God’s unchanging character rather than changing circumstances. Like Abraham, we become “fully persuaded” that what God has promised, He is also able to perform (Romans 4:20–21). When our confidence is rooted in God, fear, doubt and uncertainty lose their control over us.
- Renewed Confidence Produces Focus – Matthew 14:28–31
Peter walked on water as long as his eyes remained fixed on Jesus. The moment he shifted his attention to the wind and waves, he began to sink. Confidence keeps our attention on Christ rather than on our problems. It helps us to look beyond present difficulties and remain fixed on God’s promises until they are fulfilled.
- Renewed Confidence Produces Endurance – Hebrews 10:36
The Christian journey requires patience. The word “patience” here speaks of steadfast endurance under pressure. Renewed confidence gives us strength to continue obeying God while waiting for His promises. Noah continued building, Joseph remained faithful in prison, and David continued trusting God despite persecution. Confidence enables believers to remain faithful until the appointed time of God’s performance.
- Renewed Confidence Produces Victory
Every great victory in Scripture began with confidence in God. Noah built before the rain came. David confronted Goliath because he trusted God’s past faithfulness. Daniel entered the lions’ den without fear. Paul boldly declared in the midst of the storm, “I believe God, that it shall be even as it was told me” (Acts 27:25). Victory begins when confidence refuses to surrender to fear.
- Renewed Confidence Produces Divine Performance – Luke 1:45
Elizabeth declared, “Blessed is she that believed: for there shall be a performance of those things which were told her from the Lord.” Mary’s confidence in God’s Word led to the fulfillment of His promise. God’s performance is not determined by the strength of our circumstances but by the certainty of His covenant. Our responsibility is to keep believing until His promises become reality.
Conclusion
Hebrews 10:39 reminds us that we are not people who draw back but those who continue believing until God’s promises are fulfilled. As we keep our confidence alive, God rewards us with stability, focus, endurance, victory and, ultimately, the performance of His Word. Let us therefore hold fast our confidence, knowing that the God who promised is faithful.
Prayer Focus
- Father, establish my heart in You and deliver me from every form of doubt, fear and instability, in Jesus’ Name. (James 1:6–8).
- Lord, help me to keep my eyes fixed on Christ and not on the storms of life. Let nothing distract me from Your promises, in Jesus’ Name. (Matthew 14:28–31).
- Father, grant me the grace to endure every season of waiting without giving up until I receive Your promise, in Jesus’ Name. (Hebrews 10:36).
- Lord, let every battle confronting my life end in victory as I continue to trust in You. Help me to declare with confidence, “I believe God,” in Jesus’ Name. (Acts 27:25).
- Father, let there be a visible performance of every promise You have spoken concerning my life, family, ministry and this church, in Jesus’ Name. (Luke 1:45; Jeremiah 1:12).
- Lord, make me and every member of AyoBello Memorial Baptist Church steadfast in faith until we experience the fullness of Your divine fulfillment and performance, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
