PURSUING GODLY HABITS: PATHWAY TO A FRUITFUL LIFE (A 3-PART STUDY SERIES)

FOCAL BIBLE TEXT: PSALM 1:1–3 (KJV)

INTRODUCTION

A fruitful Christian life does not happen by accident; it is the product of a consistent walk with God and the cultivation of godly habits. Our daily choices, thoughts, attitudes, and actions gradually shape our spiritual lives and determine the kind of fruit we produce.

Psalm 1:1–3 reveals the connection between godly living and fruitfulness. It teaches us to reject ungodly influences, delight in God’s Word, meditate on it continually, and remain rooted in Him.

In this 3-Part study series, we shall be examining practical godly habits that can help believers grow spiritually, live victoriously, and fulfil God’s purpose for their lives.

PART ONE: CULTIVATING HABITS THAT PLEASE GOD

Text: Psalm 1:1

UNDERSTANDING HABITS

A habit is a routine or behavior performed regularly, often automatically and with little to no conscious thought, as a result of frequent repetition.

▪︎ Habits are practised regularly until they become part of our daily lives.

▪︎ Our habits can either strengthen our relationship with God or weaken our spiritual growth.

▪︎ To live a fruitful life, we must deliberately cultivate habits that please God and reject those that draw us away from Him.

1. Choosing Godly Influences

Psalm 1:1 warns against following ungodly counsel and adopting sinful lifestyles.

▪︎ The people we associate with and the information we consume can influence our values and decisions.

In 1 Corinthians 15:33, Apostle Paul says “Evil company corrupts good habits.” See also Proverbs 4:14-15. Compare Proverbs 13:20.

Key Lesson: Be intentional about your relationships and the influences you allow into your life.

2. Renewing Our Minds

A fruitful life begins with a mind that is continually shaped by God’s truth.

Paul says “… be transformed by the renewing of your mind…” (Romans12:2).

▪︎ We must learn to reject ungodly thoughts and focus on what is true, pure, and pleasing to God. See Paul’s counsel in Philippians 4:8.

Key Lesson: What repeatedly occupies your mind eventually influences your behaviour.

3. Practising Self-Discipline

Godly living requires discipline to say no to sinful desires and yes to what pleases God. Check Titus 2:11-12.

▪︎ We must consciously and consistently develop habits that support our spiritual growth. Look up Hebrews 12:11.

Key Lesson: Spiritual maturity requires intentional choices and consistent discipline.

Reflection Question: How do our relationships influence our Christian lives? Share an experience of a relationship that threatened your christian living.

CONCLUSION

The theme “Pursuing Godly Habits: Pathway to a Fruitful Life” reminds us that a fruitful Christian life is built through consistent, intentional choices that please God.
